Wigton
At the edge of the Lake District of Cumbria in England lies a small market town called as Wigton. Wigton is familiar as the lively and booming center of the Solway coast. This place is primarily served by the Cumbrian Coast Line, A596 road heading to Workington and to Carlisle, as well as Wigton railway station. The Market place of Wigton is interesting because this is formerly an ancient settlement, which develops from a pre-medieval street plan. The Ancient Traces of Wigton On the southern part of the town lies a large Vicus or civilian settlement. It is in this location where the Romans’ cavalry station called as “Maglona” is situated, which is locally known as “Old Carlisle.” The town has recognizable medieval layout; however, its architectural design is wholly Georgian that is still visibly intact. Also, located in the middle market place of Wigton is the Memorial fountain of George Moore, which was built in 1872. This fountain is packed with four bronzes, which was skillfully crafted by the hands of Thomas Woolner, a pre-Raphaelite sculptor. Wigton also presents the Church of St. Mary that dated from 1788. But there is still another church in this site that was built in the 12th century. Wigton: An Ideal Place for Weekend Break Because of the interesting spots presented in this town, Wigton is certainly an awesome place for a weekend break. The accommodations offered in this town are fantastically affordable with a lot of bed and breakfast, rental accommodation, and hotel to choose from. The locations of these accommodations are ideally set to get a beautiful sight of the town.
