Whitehaven
Whitehaven is both a town and a port situated in the Northern England. This place also serves as the headquarters of the Borough Council of Copeland. Whitehaven also includes numerous former villages as well as estates and suburbs such as Mirehouse, Hesingham, and Kells. Essentially, the major industry in Whitehaven in the Sellafield nuclear power complex, many of the population of the town is working in here. The Triumph and Tragedy of Whitehaven Mines and Pits Whitehaven is known for its coal trade during the early days until it successfully developed coal mines, which is said to be the first to stretch under the sea. This was attained when Saltom pit sunk in 1729. And in 1730s, Whitehaven started to build the deepest mines to acquire new sets of coal seams. But after sometime, great disasters occurred through pit and mining accidents that killed numbers of workers. So today, mining is no longer practiced in Whitehaven. The last pit to operate in the town was Haig. Whitehaven Maritime Festival Whitehaven is known for hosting a maritime festival, which was made a tradition since 1999. This festival is unique because this is held only every two years. Awesomely, the festival presents air displays that include Red Arrows, tall ships, and different contemporary and old planes, firework displays, and street entertainment. There are almost 1,000 ex-service personnel and veterans who are joining in the parade, which starts from the towns Castle Park and ends in the harbor side. The 2005 festival was special because it marked the 60th year of the Second World War end.
