In the past, Threlkeld is known in United Kingdom as among the richest miners of leads, zincs, and granites. There were even some cottages for miners. The mining industry in this village started in 1900s and it continued until 1980s. Hunting in Threlkeld is a very important part of its history and tradition. This place is the home for the famous Blencathra Hunt. Each summer, hunting in this area is not done on horseback, instead it is done on foot.
