Another fascinating place, located in the Lake District of Cumbria County in the United Kingdom is Penrith. The name Penrith either stands for “chief ford” or “red hill”, which one there is an argument over. Located in Penrith you will find Penrith Castle, which came under possession of the city council, they turned the area around the Castle into a public park.
Unlike a lot of the other towns in the Lake District Penrith has only one pub in it, The Castle Pub. In Penrith there are several landmarks you should make sure to visit. One of these is the St. Andrew church which was built in 1720 and completed in 1722. The style of church is a Grecian architectural look. The yard has be referred to as the “Giant’s Grave”, due to the ancient crosses that are in it.
Of course it was already mentioned Penrith Castle is an awesome site that you should see, it’s so rich in English Heritage. If you go south east of Penrith you will find Broughman Castle ruins. Going to the south of Penrith you will find Mayburgh Henge, which is more famously called “King Arthurs Round Table.”
Penrith’s center has a wonderful clock tower that was built in 1861. Penrith has numerous wells in the town and around it, so each May they have well-dressing ceremonies. To the south east of Penrith you will find “Giant’s caves”, something that is also a good idea to visit while staying in Penrith.
If you North of Penrith you will find Beacon Hill, used in the war of 1804 against Napoleon. As you can tell while staying in Penrith you will be surrounded by such great historical sites it will keep you busy just going around the town and looking at them.
Penrith as many other places in the Lake District has famous people too, one is William Wordsworth. Another is Samuel Plimsoll the famous social reformer, and Charlie Hunnam who is a famous British actor. These are only a few of the famous people who have stayed in Penrith in their lives.

Even if you want a lovely wedding you should consider Penrith as a great location to plan the venue. As with any wedding that is planned in the Lake District you will need to ensure that the date you want is not already booked, a lot of these places have weddings booked in advance of a year.
