Parton

Parton village of Cumbria is known today as a simple residential town. However, the village’s past is not just a simple place for families and homes. It played a very important role in the port and mining business of Cumbria in the early centuries.
The Beginning of Port Industry in Parton
Before, the bay in Parton was just a plain nice-looking body of water until it was used by the Romans. These Romans had their fort on the higher grounds of Parton.
Not long after that, the bay in Parton was used by the Moresby inhabitants to deliver their coal trade. However, the coal industry declined after the passing of two generations. Good thing, the port never ceased operation with that. Instead, the port in Parton even became a more important transportation point.
Later, Parton became a point of transporting different products of the village including glassworks. Parton tried other trades with that until some of these trades declined. Then, after few decades, Parton returned to mining coals. Surprisingly, there were still many coals in Parton, which made the village’s name popular among other people.
The Parton Today
Today, the coal mining industry has already vanished in Parton. What people will see in this once powerful village are the traces of its rich trading history. The old port is still there as well as some of the old houses way back many centuries ago.
Parton is also boasting a nice community they have as well as the fresh nature and surroundings that people here enjoy. Certainly, Parton is still a great place to visit despite the closure of its rich industry a long time ago.
