Going back to the methods that our ancestors used to implement can be very tough and arduous. However, the Lake District is indeed serious in producing organic products for the welfare of every folk and the environment. The challenges in the growth of plants animals can be the wet climate. The limitations come when a shorter budding season happens. And to solve this issue, polytunnels are utilized to moderate the wind and the damage it can cause; hence, a warmer environment is maintained. Furthermore, organic producers in the Lake District have to weed the crops by hand. Natural predators are employed to control the attack of pests to the crops. With a careful plant management, (e.g. crop rotation) plant diseases can also be reduced. Though the expenditures in harvesting organic products can be higher than normal, what is important to the government of Lake District is there are actually fewer environmental cost. So, to boost the economy and the sales of organic producers in the Lake District folks are encourage to directly buy from the organic producers. To have their own farm shops is also another means in promoting the products of organic farming. |
