Description
The Lakeland Country Fair takes place at Torver, near Coniston, in beautiful countryside looking across to the Coniston fells and Coniston Old Man. It is easily accessible, at the junction of the A593 and A5084, a few miles west of Coniston village. As well as being a typical Cumbrian show, the Lakeland Country Fair acts as a showcase for traditional Cumbrian skills and activities. There will be Herdwick and Swaledale sheep on display and demonstrations of hand-clipping will take place during the afternoon.
Features include a Terrier Show followed by Terrier Racing, a Lurcher Show, a family Dog Show, Childrens' Sports, a Stick Show, a Sheepdog Show for pet and working sheepdogs, a Foxhound Show, Beagle Show and a Horn-blowing competition! There will be Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling, Fell Races for adults and juniors, and a Ferret Show.
many traditional skills will be on show, including stickmaking, woodcarving, fly tying, beekeeping, weaving, spinning and sheep clipping. In the main ring you can see Displays of Working Horses and Fell Foxhounds and a Falconry Display from the Malhamdale Falconry Centre (to be confirmed). You can look at alpacas and talk to Ruby, a working Clydesdale horse. At the end of the day, weather permitting, there will be a display of paragliding.
The Lakeland Country Fair offers something for all the family - as well as numerous Trade Stands there is a childrens' area with bouncy castle, swingboats and a roundabout. There will be Donkey Rides for the children, a Climbing Wall and a Rodeo Bull. There is a licensed bar, home-made refreshments and a barbecue.
