Lake District Solicitor
A solicitor is a British lawyer in charge of a city or town government. This level legal officer also consults client through the lower courts and simultaneously prepares them for barristers, who try the client’s case in the higher court system. In reference to the Lake District, solicitor position is that which conducts the legal matters of that region As a matter of fact, the Lake District solicitor is the highest ranking legal officer, under the judges established there. This is the person who determines legal grounds for a client or a venture and provides legal authority in a given situation, as needed.
In the Lake District, the solicitor works closely with estate agents who distribute property as designated by a will or as acknowledged by law. The solicitor might even resolve disputes between heirs who conflict over inheritance and then determine who gets what in accordance with the law. Of course, the district court would most likely make the final judgement, should the matter be taken to court.
One famous Lake District solicitor was William Heelis, who worked with Beatrix Potter on her film. He stored the film equipment inside the old Rum factory that was eventually converted into a museum. His regular officer had been too small. In any case the Lake District solicitor found this an idea place for the new office. Actor Lloyd Owen played the Lake District solicitor in Potter’s movie. This position, then, served significant in the movie and in Beatrix Potter’s life, especially since she eventually married Heelis. Today, a tour of Potter’s house and the museum are common and of major interest to Lake District residents and vacationers alike.
The position of solicitor in the Lake District has then become of one of celebrity status, at least among Brits living in the Lake District.
