Lake District Festivals
When you visit a particular place for the first time, it is interesting to see what festivals they are holding so that you can get to soak in the local culture.
This way, you can experience the hospitality of the locals, you can sample the local cuisine, hear the music that they have to offer and bask in the local sights and tourist attractions.
Now, if you would like to experience what the Lake District has to offer, there is no better way to do so than by participating in one of the many Lake District festivals.
No matter which time of the year it is that you choose to visit this part of North West England, you can rest assured that there is at least one Lake District festival that you can witness.
As one of the country's most popular tourist destinations, Lake District festivals seem to be a natural part of a traveler's itinerary. Aside from exploring the sights at the Lake District National Park – you can join any of the Lake District festivals which is your chance to soak in the local culture.
All about Lake District Festivals
To have an idea about the many Lake District festivals that you can join, here is a list of the activities scheduled from October to December, based on a list from the Lake District Government:
- October 1 – December 14: Bowness Theatre Festival
- October 11: Westmorland Campaign for Real Ale Beer Festival
- October 11: Wasdale Head Shepherds Meet and Show
- November 16: Kendal Mountain Festival
- November 22: Ambleshide Christmas Lights Lantern Procession
- November 29-30: Windermere Winter Masked Parade
- December 7 – Keswick Traditional Christmas Fayre
These are just some of the Lake District festivals which are scheduled for the rest of 2008. There are some Lake District festivals which are held annually – while others are tagged as irregular events.
If you still can’t get enough of Lake District festivals, here are some other events that you can participate in:
- The Lakeland Rose show which is held every July. Just like the famous Rose parade in the United States, this Lake District festival features colorful horticulture displays and marvelous floral art works.
- The Lake District Summer Music Festival which is held every August. This is one of the most highly-anticipated events among the Lake District festivals which are every two years. Here, the younger generation can get their fill of the most popular music which hits the UK airwaves.
There are plenty of other Lake District festivals that you can participate in year-round. There's the Coniston Water Festival, the Maryport Blues Festival, the Windermere Air Show, the Barrow's Annual Festival of the Sea, the Tebay Elephant Festival and a lot more!
By joining in the fun at any of these Lake District festivals – you can rest assured that your visit to the Lake District is an experience that you will not forget for a long time to come.
