Lake District Activities – FISHING: One of the most relaxing of Lake District activities during a vacation is fishing and the Lake District scores high marks insofar as this soothing activity. This is because the Lake District is acknowledged as one of the best fishing spots in England. With its fish abundant, lakes, tarns, streams and rivers, the Lake District has excellent opportunities for fresh water fishing. One particular spot for fishing in the Lake District is the Windermere Lake which is a very popular place where many anglers meet every year. The waters of Windermere have a rich stock of various fish species that include arctic char, perch, brown trout, pike, eels and roach. If you are lucky enough, you could hook sea trout and salmon when they swim through Windermere Lake for spawning in its tributaries. Other popular fishing spots include Crummock Water, Buttermere and Derwentwater, all of which have perch, char, pike and trout in abundance. Although fishing is free of cost at some of the fishing spots, a permit that allows a day or week of fishing will need to be purchased to fish in some lakes. A rod license is another mandatory requirement for anglers and can also be purchased at the local post office, tackle shops or tourist information centers.
Lake District Activities – CLIMBING and WALKING: This is a thrilling activity for adventure seekers, both amateur and experienced and one of the popular Lake District activities. While many mountains and fells in the Lake District offer a variety of climbing and walking opportunities, the Northern Fells are the ones that attract a significant number of walkers and climbers every year. For walkers, there are several, well defined paths and trails around the valleys and densely wooded slopes of these fells. Experienced guides are also available to advise climbers on the safest routes to the summits of each fell. The more experienced climbers can exercise their skills in the challenging Skiddaw or Biencathra Ranges while amateur climbers may attempt the less imposing heights of Cat Bells or High Pike.
