Hotels in Bassenthwaite
Renting in hotels in Bassenthwaite is a way to learn a bunch about the history of the village that is a part of the civil parish of the Allerdale District of Cumbria County, England. In the 2001 census the population was stated at 412 people. The village sits around nine miles from Cockermouth, and sits approximately one mile from Bassenthwaite Lake. There is not shops, and only one pub in Bassenthwaite. The town relies on agriculture as its mainstay with two farms within the village. There are two churches in the town though, one being the Church of England and a tiny Methodist chapel. There is also a one room schoolhouse in the village too. The lake near Bassenthwaite is indeed titled Bassenthwaite Lake, and is in fact one of the larger lakes in the Lake District in England. The lake itself is long and narrow, running for about 4 miles in length, and ¾ of a mile wide. It is pretty shallow also, with a maximum depth of only 70 feet. 70 feet isn’t really that shallow but when compared to other lakes in the area, it seems to be one of the least deep. An interesting fact about Bassenthwaite Lake is that it is the only lake that is located in the Lake district that has “lake” in it’s name, all others are known as waters or meres, or even tarns for that fact. Many bird watchers or photographers come to Bassenthwaite to look and take pictures of the Osprey. Herons are often spotted around the lake also given the bird lover another beautiful species to look at, and the photographer another great picture to take. Bassenthwaite Lake like so many of the other lakes in the Lake District lie in glacially eroded valleys. Bassenthwaite Lake links to the Derwent Water via the River Derwent. It’s believed that they once were one lake in the past but over time have separated. Bassenthwaite Lake offers the angler a wide variety of catch from salmon, trout, pike, perch, minnow, dace, ruffe, and even eel. Currently the lake has faced some problems with erosion, pollution and alien flora that have been introduced by people that are threatening the local species. The towns around are trying to combat these problems the best that they can. Maybe after staying in a hotel in Bassenthwaite you will want to donate some money to the cause to save a beautiful lake. Even with these threats to the lake Bassenwhaite would still be an excellent location for you to rent a hotel and go on a holiday with your family. Hotels in England are generally smaller than their counterparts in the United States. Thus renting a hotel room in England will afford you with better service than you are use to if you come from the states. Hotels can be as small as five rooms, and you know with that little of a size the hotel staff will be able to cater to you at a better rate.
