Holmrook
Holmrook has breathtaking mountain and lake scenery with England's highest mountain Scafell Pike, as well as Wastwater which is the deepest lake. Located on the river Irt, the Lakes District village of Holmrock is renowned for sea trout and salmon fishing. Add to this the "The Biggest Liar in the World" competition in November and one of the most beautiful train journeys imaginable on "T'Laal Ratty"! Believe it or not Holmrook is quite the secret as the majority of visitors to the Lake District don’t know that it is "The True Lakeland". All of this is just two miles north of Ravenglass. For your accommodation needs in Holmrook, there is a wide variety of choices available to suit most guests from Luxury Bed & Breakfasts to castles that are also available for any Lake District Weddings. Muncaster Castle is a truly charming 13th Century ancestral home with beautiful gardens, rhododendrons and owl sanctuary as well as an adventure playground to occupy the children. Don’t miss it! If you are hungry why not enjoy a Devonshire Tea or a picnic in Lake District National Park. Why not get your heart pumping with some walking and climbing in Holmrook as the high level is unparalleled, although there are easy walks and climbs for the novice adventurer? Or for a slower pace, tour the corn mill at Muncaster just near Santon Bridge. Holmrook has a local church, a post office and a pub. Irton Hall, now home to self-catering cottages boasts a 1000-year-old oak tree in its grounds as well as being reputed to have two resident ghosts!
