Hawkshead

Hawkshead is a popular, family-friendly base in Southern Lakeland and has even been called the prettiest village in the Lakes. Hawkshead is suitable for both active family holidays with some fantastic mountain biking, cycling, hiking and walking in the Southern Fells and a host of fun adventures that await the entire family.
Hawkshead's medieval roots are seen in the ruins of medieval Hawkshead Hall and 15th century St Michael's church. There is Beatrix Potter's house at Hill Top just 3.2km from Hawkshead, and also head for the Beatrix Potter Gallery where you'll find a stunning collection of original sketches and watercolours. The village is encircled by some of the Lakes most stunning scenery including Grizedale Forest south, Lake Windermere east and Coniston Lake to the west. Grizedale forest is literally on Hawkhead’s doorstep; so let the kids Go Ape with a challenging course of rope bridges and tarzan swings!

Because many of the attractions and villages are located quite close to one another, getting around in Hawkshead is relatively simple as there is a local bus route, the Lake District Transport and taxi service. There are also plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs that are all delighted to offer you good food and warm hospitality in their quaint village.
Families have taken holidays in the Lake District for decades; and rain or shine there is never a shortage of terrific family friendly properties available in the area. In Hawkshead there are lots of options to suit all budgets and tastes; from luxury apartments to hostels and farm stay.
