Frizington
The small 19th Century village of Frizington consists of many farm homes and surrounding lands. Once a booming iron ore and coal mining town, today the area serves as a great starting point or ending point for those cycling or walking the coasts of Cumbria. The area is rather new in comparison to some of the older villages that have been formed around the Lake District; its major claim to fame is the famous Church of St. Paul. The church, which still stands today, was built in 1867. The depiction of Christ’s life on the stained glass windows that shed light on the Victorian era red sandstone structure is a favorite for visitors to view. Its close proximity to the busy city of Whitehaven makes it a great stop for those wishing to escape to a more tranquil place in time. The area is full of lush green valleys and farmland; fresh flowers bloom throughout the spring and summer months- as well, the area is lush in views of the neighboring fells and rolling hills nearby. Furthermore, the town of Frizington is just a short distance from the Ennerdale Water; the most westerly of the Lakes in the Cumbria district. For those that make the trip to Frizington; you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep at the local inn, just on the edge of town. The inn currently offers ferry rides to those wishing to embark on the cycle or walking paths throughout the region. Frizington offers those that visit a quiet resting place for their journey; as well as, a breath-taking view of the lush land.
