Eskdale
If you’re looking for a beautiful rural destination that offers captivating views, but within close distance to nearby lakes; then Eskdale is the place you truly need to visit. The valley of Eskdale sits at the foothills of many of the Lake Districts area fells; and due to the fact that this one little valley of Eskdale does not flaunt its very own lake- not a lot of tourists visit the area. That’s wonderful for those of you looking for tranquil surroundings that offer breath-taking views. The area is however home to several tarns and large ponds- this makes for wonderful picnics and fishing. There are many sites to see in Eskdale; there is very rich soil in the district- therefore, as you can imagine many beautiful gardens. The area has many estates and castles for visitors to tour. Many of these centuries old dwellings have beautiful grounds and feature luscious gardens with beautiful plants- many of which bloom throughout the year. The area has several local cottages and inns for those wishing to stay overnight or for a longer visit. Most of these are 17th and 18th Century buildings with white washed exteriors and well groomed grounds. The area also offers several locally owned shops that feature crafts and items made by area artisans. Paintings, prints, handmade knitwear, jewelry, and native sheepskin products can be found. As well, there is a local pub and eatery that offers cold ale for those that need to sit a while and quench their thirst.
