Ellenborough
Ellenborough is a small village located in the Alledale ward sitting near the river Derwent. For those that reside in the area; there is a pleasant calmness- there’s no traffic, no busy tourist sites; just peace and tranquility. Ellenborough is a very historical place; believed to have been inhabited for over 1000 years. There are many castles and homes throughout the area that have been in the Ellenborough village for hundreds of years; many of these can be toured and visited while on holiday. Within close proximity to Ellenborough sits one of the districts finest museums; the old museum currently holds old found ruins from the city of Ellenborough. These old Roman ruins consist of ancient altars, religious scriptures carved in stones, as well as, other remnants of the ancient Roman fort that was once inhabited. The town of Ellenborough is a great location for sight-seers and those wishing to take in the wonderful views; as well, there are many walking and cycling paths that wind in and out of the Ellenborough village. Accommodations for visitors nearby consist of century old cottages and country houses; all with spectacular views of nearby rivers, lakes, and fells. As well, those that visit the area can take part in nightly entertainment and food at one of the local pubs or restaurants, many ran by local folks. Fresh seafood and freshly brewed ales and malts are just a few of the many perks for those visiting the Ellenborough area.
