Dubwath
Far in the Northwestern corner of the Lake District National Park lays a charming little town called Dubwath. Surrounded by the beauty of both forest and fells; the town’s rich abundance of wildlife is perhaps the draw for many that visit. There is wonderful fishing in the area along Bassenthwaite Lake; as well as, wonderful views of Skiddaw and its forests. The close proximity to historical towns like Keswick and Cockermouth make it an ideal location for those wishing to stop in and take in the view. During summer months; those stopping in the Dubwath village can even see an old returning guest to the region; the Osprey. This bird, which was last known to the area nearly 150 years ago, has since migrated back to the region. Many environmentalists and locals have arranged for the Dubwath area to undergo extensive work on its wetlands in order to keep these rare birds from leaving again. Visitors will have the chance to watch rare birds such as the snipe, curlew and lapwing habitat and recreate throughout the Dubwath area. For those wishing to stay overnight; there are several locally owned establishments that offer century old character and intrigue- not to mention a nice soft bed. Most of these old cottages and country homes lie on the outskirts of Dubwath; they feature wonderful views and relaxing gardens. During the summer months; holiday visitors can enjoy daffodils in bloom; winter months bring snowcapped mountains; and fall- a wonderful array of bright and beautiful color.
