Distington
While visiting the Cumbria district, many holiday goers have found the coastal town of Distington a very quiet and charming stop. The town, a parish in the ward of Allerdale, is home to many in the clothing and hat business. And as you may have guessed, the area offers many delightful shops and stores featuring local linens, hats, and works of art. Once a booming coal town- filled with mines and quarries of limestone; today, the town is a historical reminder of days gone by. The area of Distington offers spectacular views of the coastline and many of the Lake District’s fells located nearby. For those that enjoy quiet walks and cycling paths; they will find an abundance of trails throughout the Distington village. On your walk, you’re likely to see fields of green, filled with wild flowers in the summer months; as well as, snowcapped mountains in the winter months. Distington and the surrounding villages offer holiday goers a variety of accommodations. Many of the old country homes have been converted into public housing accommodations for those wanting to stay overnight. As well, there are many cottages and smaller self-catering establishments- many that feature century old architecture. Most of the dwellings throughout the area feature wonderful gardens; a great place to sit and rest- perhaps even take in a cup of tea. For those wishing for something a little stronger than a cup of tea; you’ll also find the area is home to several local pubs featuring freshly brewed ale.
