Calthwaite

Calthwaite is a small village that is located between Penrith and Carlisle in the Cumbria section of the English Lake District. It only has about 100 residents yet still includes a primary school, church, pre-school nursery and a pub. Though it is not the smallest of the villages in Cumbria, it is certainly one smaller ones. Of course, its proximity to Penrith and Carlisle make up for its loss in population, thus allowing people of the village access to things they need or want that are not available in Calthwaite.
Many villages within the Lake District are small and quaint, and Calthwaite falls among those. That doesn’t mean they are not good as tourist stops by any means—in fact, the small villages are better for tourism, especially for the folks who like the slower pace and peace and tranquility of simply admiring the scenery and walking among the relics of history in the Lake District. The Lake District itself has plenty of history and the mountain views that envelope the villages add to the pleasure of viewing the history of each town and village. Calthwaite is small yet tranquil so one can enjoy taking the time to “stop and smell the roses” as the saying goes.
If you’re touring the Lake District, you definitely want to take time to take a village walk through Calthwaite or the surrounding towns and villages. Calthwaite is one of those places that calls out for attention, so make sure you include it as part of your holiday touring so you can absorb more history of the English Lake District.
