Kendal
Yet another town in the Lake District of the United Kingdom is Kendal. Known as a market town it’s in the Cumbria district of the Lake District. Kendal is well known for its pipe tobacco and also snuff. Plus another title they have in Kendal is having the most pubs in a square mile. The buildings of Kendal are mostly limestone. You will also find one of the earliest castles in Kendal, motte and bailey, which is a Norman castle. The history of the town of Kendal is noticeable in the alleyways which were built and fortified to protect the town of Kendal from the Anglo-Scottish. Kendal’s main staple is wool, which you can tell by looking at the Kendal coat of arms, in which the motto reads “wool is my bread.” You will also find the remains of other castles in the area. Besides wool, and tobacco Kendal is also famous for the Kendal mint cake they produce. The production of snuff tobacco began way back in 1792, when the art of manufacturing it was brought back from Scotland by Thomas Harrison. Eventually his products include not only snuff but pipe tobacco. If you stay in Kendal you can also visit other locations in the Lake District simply by catching a train from the Kendal railway station. Some good places to visit while staying in Kendal are the Kendal Museum of Natural History and Archaeology. This is one of the oldest museums in the United Kingdom. Also in Kendal you will find the Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Museum of Lakeland Life, of course Kendal Castle, Staff of Life bakery, and the Brewery Arts Center. As with any other city Kendal has a list of well known people from the past, some are Sir Arthur Eddington, Alfred Wainwright, George Romney, and Desmond Bagley. The town of Kendal along with any other location in the Lake District is a wonderful place to visit and spend a family vacation. You will remember this location for your whole life, and it very well could be one of the most memorable family vacations you ever spend. Another great choice is to plan a wedding in the town of Kendal. Of course since the Lake District is so beautiful you may want to make sure in advance that they have a venue available for your date. If not either change and try another venue or another day. But with a wedding in Kendal it will be a day that your guest will always remember and a great way for you and your spouse to start out your new life together. In fact you may want to consider just staying in Kendal for your honeymoon too; you surely won’t be bored if you choose this as a location for a honeymoon. Again with the rich history of not only the Lake District but also Kendal you are sure to have fun with a stay in Kendal no matter what you are there for. Pack your bags.
