Bassenthwaite
Bassenthwaite Lake is among the largest of the Lake District lakes and is the only one that includes the word “lake” in its name. It measures approximately fur miles long and 3.4 miles wide but is quite shallow with a maximum depth of 70 feet. Bassenthwaite Lake feeds directly into the River Derwent and is located at the foot of Skiddaw near Keswick. Some early maps refer to this lake as Bassenwater or Broadwater.
There are spectacular views along the edge of the lake with the laybys providing a great spot for photographers and birdwatchers who are looking for the appearance of Osprey. In addition, visitors to the region can also admire the picturesque views and have something to take home after their visit to the Lake District. Each of the lakes has something of its own to share and that includes Bassenthwaite. Regardless of where you are within the Lake District you will find something of beauty and wonder. Bassenthwaite provides a view for photographers, visitors and bird watchers.

There is nothing better than lying in wait to photograph any of the beautiful birds or to bask in the natural surroundings of Bassenthwaite. There is a natural beauty surrounding the lake that you will not want to miss but make sure you have plenty of pictures to take home with you when you leave. Take a slow walk along the edge of the lake so you don’t miss anything while you are there.
