Ayside

Ayside is a small village in the Lake District that consists of stone cottages on a road that spans two miles from Newby Bridge while Ayside Beck runs alongside. In the past it was stocked with fish, and this provided food for the monks at the Cartmel priory. Though it is small, it is obvious the villagers have a great deal of pride in their homes and have even won an award as the prettiest small village within the Lake District. Past industries in the village include clog and shoe making, laundry services and a farm that was used as a rest stop for horses. You will also notate a quarry in the area of the village.

Though Ayside is a small village, it speaks out of its history and the pride of those who live in the houses. It’s the kind of place a visitor would find intriguing and worth the walk to take in all of the beauty that exists within. You will find many accommodations and other events and activities in Ayside and the surrounding areas. You may not find guesthouses right in the village, but with only a two mile street, you won’t have far to go to find the facilities you need. The village is full of beauty and rich history just like many other villages in the Cumbria section of the Lake District. You want to allow plenty of time to embellish in the beauty of Ayside before you move on to one of the other Lake District villages.
