Askam-in-Furness

Without iron ore and the industry it brought along with it, there would be no Askam-in-Furness. The largest iron ore deposit in the country was discovered in 1850 and produced over 7 million tons of ore before it closed in 1918. Askam-in-Furness has Methodist and Catholic churches, so there are religious affiliations for both Catholic and Protestants within the village. There was a lifeboat established in 1970 and you will also find a fountain that commemorates Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. An unstaffed railway stations still remains open as a halt.
Askam-in-Furness provides beautiful views across the Duddon estuary and includes a long beach. The views alone are enough to justify a visit to Askam-in-Furness though there are many other attractions as well. If you’re looking to sight see and find some spectacular scenery along the way, Askam-in-Furness is certainly the right place to be. Of course there are other things to see besides the beach and the views you will find across the estuary, but you can surely begin there and find your way throughout all of the other beautiful views that exist within Askam-in-Furness.
