Ambleside
Ambleside is a town located in northwest England in the Cumbria region. It is located within the Lake District National Park at the head of Lake Windermere. Its name comes from the Old Norse word meaning “river—sandbank—summer pasture.” For those interested in hiking, mountaineering and mountain biking, Ambleside is a great place to be. You will also find a substantial selection shops, hotels, guesthouses, pubs and restaurants. Ambleside is rather unusual because it has two town charters; one represents the republicans and the other royalists. In addition to a university and a library and museum, you’ll find an abundant variety of outdoor shops for the lovers of the many outdoor sports. Walking and climbing are part of the economy of Ambleside, so you will see many shops where you can buy various pieces of equipment that will allow you to participate during your stay in Ambleside. You will also find a large outdoor equipment store that spans three floors and has five departments. This same store sponsors a mountain rescue team in Ambleside. You’ll also find plenty of pubs in Ambleside including ten within just a short distance. One knows that some of the best eats in England are in the pubs, and Ambleside is no different. When you’re looking for good food in a casual atmosphere, the pubs are the place to go. When it’s warm weather, you are just likely to find some outdoor seats where you can eat, drink and watch the traffic go by.
